Brookings, SD—The Oral Roberts women’s tennis team opened up the final weekend of Summit League cluster play in impressive fashion, posting a 4-2 win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Thursday afternoon at the Sioux Empire Fitness Complex.
ORU’s Lina Semenova had her hands full in #1 singles, battling Jenny Blackburne for a tough three sets, before pulling out the 7-6, (7-5) and 6-2 victory.
Earning the second point for ORU was Kristin Gray, who cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over SDSU’s Brooke Henry at the #2 spot.
Ekaterina Kondrashova sailed 6-0, 6-2 over Natalia Medina at #4 for ORU’s final singles point.
Tori Dollar came up on the short end of a 6-4, 7-5 decision at #3 singles, while Rachel Scroggs stumbled 6-1 and 6-2 in #5 singles
Brittney Smith and Katie Elifson went unfinished in #6 action.
Doubles competition belonged to the Golden Eagles, as the team of Semenova and Gray dominated to the tune of 8-1 at #1, while Scroggs and Smith held on for an 8-4 win at #3 doubles.
With the win, ORU improves to 4-9 overall and 3-2 in the Summit League.
The Golden Eagles will take the court once again tomorrow morning, as they square off against IPFW at 9:00 a.m.
