Iryna Khatsko led ORU to the Summit League title
INDIANAPOLIS - Iryna Khatsko won points at both singles and doubles on Saturday afternoon, leading Oral Roberts to a 4-0 victory over Southern Utah University at the West Indy Racquet Club. With the win, ORU clinches their first undisputed Summit League regular season championship since 2008.

ORU finishes the regular season 11-5, with an 8-0 Summit League mark. The Golden Eagles will hold the top seed at the 2012 Summit League Championship tournament, which begins in two weeks.

Khatsko finishes the regular season a perfect 8-0 in both singles and doubles conference play. The senior teamed with Kristin Gray to topple SUU’s Ksusha Johnson and Lisa Pleskan, 8-1, at No. 2 pairs. Because the Thunderbirds defaulted on the third court, it was the only victory ORU needed to secure the doubles point.

SUU also defaulted at sixth flight singles, meaning ORU only needed two individual wins to capture the match. Khatsko provided the first of those, with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Johnson in the top flight.

With that win, ORU needed to triumph on only one of the four remaining courts. Marizanne Bouwer took care of business, winning a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Afton Staheli on court five.

The semifinals of the 2012 Summit League Championship will be held on Friday, April 27 in Kansas City, with the final match a day later.
