ORU Falls to Wichita State, 7-0, in Season Opener
TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University opened the 2013 season with a loss on Thursday morning as they were tripped by Wichita State University, 7-0, at the Case Tennis Complex.

ORU (0-1) was most competitive in doubles play, where they stayed close in two matches. Tori Dollar and Melanie Marlin lost a close battle at the top spot, 8-6, to Wichita’s Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova. ORU also hung tough at the second spot, where Marizanne Bouwer and Rachel Scroggs dropped a, 8-5 decision to Monstse Blasco Fernandez and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul.

In the third flight, Brittany Smith and Natalia Dollar fell to Summer Schlotterback and Rebecca Pedrazzi, 8-1.

The Shockers (1-0) turned it on in the singles competition, handily winning all six points. Marlin fell to Kovalova in the opening flight, 6-0, 6-1, and Tori Dollar fell to Pedrazzi, 6-0, 6-0.

The third flight was the last one where ORU managed to win a game, as Bouwer lost to Mahajaroenkul, 6-1, 6-0.

Wichita State swept the final three flights, 6-0, 6-0, with Blaskova knocking off Scroggs, Fernandez beating Natalia Dollar and Schlotterback winning over Smith.

ORU returns to action on Saturday morning, when they face UALR. Match time at the Case Tennis Complex is scheduled for 9 am.
