ORU Finishes Road Swing at Northwestern State

ORU (6-10, 2-3 SLC) fell to Stephen F. Austin, 3-0, on Thursday evening in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Golden Eagles outhit SFA, .152 to .142, but they were undone by 11 service errors.
Tatum Fredeen posted a team-high 12 kills in the loss, while Sheina Fernandes and Bruna Silva collected 11 digs each.
The loss dropped ORU to 0-6 in road matches this season.
Silva enters Saturday’s match averaging 5.16 digs per set, tops in the SLC, while Fredeen’s 2.88 kills per set are a team-high through 16 matches.
Northwestern State (11-6, 3-2 SLC) blew a 2-1 lead and fell to Central Arkansas on Thursday night, 3-2. Mackenzie Neely led the Lady Demons with 13 kills in the loss, while current SLC Defensive Player of the Week Keelie Arneson tallied 29 digs.
Arneson is second in the SLC in digs per set, at 4.91, trailing only ORU’s Silva.
The loss to the Sugar Bears snapped NSU’s five-match winning streak.
ORU is 3-0 all-time against Northwestern State. Sheera Sirola’s team dominated their last meeting with the Demons, a 3-0 victory on September 5, 2009. Then-freshmen Olivia Ophus and Joana Gruber had nine kills each in the win, with Ophus adding 13 digs.
Sirola is in her 10th year managing the Golden Eagles, with a record of 176-121. Northwestern State’s Co-Head Coaches, Hugh and Stephanie Hernesman, are 34-42 in their third year with the Lady Demons.
