TULSA, Okla. - Head Coach Sheera Sirola and the Oral Roberts University volleyball team held their first practice of 2013 this morning, a spirited two-hour session inside of the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. Eight returning letterwinners took the floor, along with six newcomers participating in their first official training session as Golden Eagles.

“When we finished our spring practice schedule, our kids expressed to me just how bad they want to win the Southland Conference this season,” said Sirola. “That carried over to the summer, when they did a great job with conditioning and weights, and you could see the focus in this morning’s practice. Our kids were ready to play.”

Among the eight returning Golden Eagles are libero Bruna Silva, a two-time conference player of the year and setter Laura Taylor, an honorable mention All-Southland selection last season.

ORU went 17-15 last season, with an 11-7 Southland mark. The Golden Eagles advanced to the finals of the Southland Conference Tournament, where they fell in a close four-set battle with Central Arkansas.

The 2013 season begins on August 30, when Sirola’s crew travels to Houston for a matchup with Texas Southern.
