FRISCO, Texas - Oral Roberts University junior Sara Pope has been named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday evening. Pope is the first student-athlete to be honored by the SLC this season.

Pope was on fire in her first tournament as a Golden Eagle, earning MVP honors at the TSU Invitational. The Jenks native led ORU to a 3-0 start by averaging 4.62 kills per set at the event at swinging at a .541 clip.

Pope’s top performance came in the season-opener against Texas Southern, when she tallied 19 kills on 27 attempts without committing an error in a 3-0 victory.

Pope was a three-time America East Player of the Week last season at the University of Albany, when she earned America East Player of the Year honors.

SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Stephen F. Austin’s O.J. Olson.

Pope and the Golden Eagles return to the court on Tuesday night, when they face Tulsa. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm CT at the Reynolds Center.
