FRISCO, Texas - Oral Roberts University senior Bruna Silva has been named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The weekly honor is the first of the season for Silva and the sixth of her collegiate career.

Silva led ORU (6-1) to three victories last week, averaging 5.53 digs per set. The senior’s best efforts came on Tuesday, when she tallied 20 digs against Tulsa, and Friday, when she put up 37 digs in a win over UTEP.

For the season, the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native leads the Southland Conference with 4.46 digs per set.

Silva and the Golden Eagles will play their final non-conference tournament of the season this weekend at the Springhill Suites Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. ORU will open the tournament on Friday, September 13 against former Summit League rival North Dakota State, with first serve scheduled for 5 pm ET.
