ORU Faces Stephen F. Austin in Road Finale
Oral Roberts (19-6, 11-4 Southland Conference) fell in their last match, a 3-1 setback at the hands of undefeated league-leader Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon. Sara Pope led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills in the loss, but ORU hit just .122 for the afternoon.
Pope continues to lead ORU in kills, ranking 2nd in the SLC with 3.69 per set, while Bruna Silva’s 5.18 digs per set are also 2nd in the conference.
Following the loss, ORU sits at 4th place in the SLC standings behind Central Arkansas (15-0), Northwestern State (14-2) and Sam Houston State (13-3). The Golden Eagles are a half-game ahead of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-5), and they do hold the tiebreaker with both SHSU and AMCC, having beaten both teams in the regular season.
The top eight teams in the league will qualify for the single-elimination Southland Conference Tournament, which begins on November 22 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Senior Jessica Pancratz had six blocks in the UCA match and enters the week with 339 total blocks for her career. That places her 6th on ORU’s career total blocks list, and the Tulsa native needs five blocks to pass Ksenija Kugler for 5th on ORU’s career list.
Fellow senior Laura Taylor is also climbing up the ORU record books. She enters the week with 3,811 career set assists, 2nd-best in school history, and she needs 131 assists to become ORU’s career leader.
Stephen F. Austin is 16-13, with an 8-8 Southland Conference record at the start of the week. The Ladyjacks are 7th in the Southland Conference standings and could potentially clinch an SLC Tournament berth with a win on Tuesday.
The Ladyjacks have caught fire as of late, winning three consecutive matches. All three of the wins have come on the road, including a 3-1 victory over New Orleans on November 9 and a 3-0 triumph over Southeastern Louisiana on November 7.
Jill Ivy tallied eight kills in the win over New Orleans and leads SFA for the season with 3.03 kills per set, while libero OJ Olson had 17 digs in the New Orleans win and leads SFA for the season, with 4.92 digs per set.
ORU returns to Tulsa immediately following the SFA match, and they will take the court again on Thursday, November 14 against Southeastern Louisiana. Match time at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center is scheduled for 7 pm CT.
