Silva, Fernandes Named to All-Time SLC Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas - Oral Roberts University volleyball standouts Bruna Silva and Sheina Fernandes were named to the All-Time Southland Conference Volleyball Honor Roll, the league office announced today. Silva and Fernandes were two of 83 former and current student-athletes selected to the squad.

Silva, a senior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was the 2012 SLC Libero of the Year after leading the league with 5.22 digs per set. In her final season, Silva was named to the Preseason All-SLC 1st Team, and she currently ranks 2nd in the league with 5.16 digs per set.

Fernandes, a 2012 alumnus, had a banner season in ORU’s first year as Southland Conference members. The Porto Alegre, Brazil native was a 1st Team All-SLC member as a senior, when she ranked 3rd in the conference in hitting percentage and blocks. She was also ORU’s first-ever Capital One Academic All-America selection after posting a 4.00 GPA in international business.

Silva and Fernandes were each All-Southland Conference Tournament selections in 2012, when they led the sixth-seeded Golden Eagles to the Championship Match.

ORU currently sports a 22-6 record in 2013 and begins Southland Conference Tournament play on Friday against Houston Baptist. First serve in Corpus Christi, Texas is scheduled for 1:30 pm CT.
