Golden Eagles Blanked at Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Oral Roberts dropped its first Summit League contest of the season on Saturday night with a 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, 28-30) loss at Southern Utah.

The Golden Eagles (5-6, 3-1) were held to a .159 hitting percentage with 39 kills, while the Thunderbirds (5-6, 3-1) hit .259 with 52 kills.

Elizabeth McVicker (Owasso, Okla.) paced the ORU offense with eight kills against only two errors, while fellow sophomore Joana Gruber (Santa Rosa, Brazil) also smashed eight kills in the loss.

Freshman Laura Taylor (Broken Arrow, Okla.) chipped in five kills and handed out 19 assists, while Anna Rossi added 11 assists.

Serena Cate led the defense with 10 kills and two blocks, and also registered six kills.

Analaine Pelaez recorded a game-high 18 kills and added nine digs to lead Southern Utah in the win.

The Golden Eagles return to action next weekend against North Dakota State and South Dakota State in Tulsa.
