ORU Hosts Jacks in Final Home Match

ORU (19-7, 12-4 Summit League) needs to right the ship after losing their past three matches. The latest setback came on Thursday night, as the Golden Eagles were swept by North Dakota State (25-16, 25-21, 25-11). Sheina Fernandes led the squad with nine kills, but as a team ORU hit just .078.
North Dakota State hit .292 in the match, the highest mark by and ORU opponent this season.
Bruna Silva led ORU with 25 digs in the loss. The sophomore has now tallied at least 20 digs in ORU’s last 12 matches, and she entered the week ranked 17th in the nation in digs per set, at 5.53.
ORU’s three-match losing streak, which matches their longest of the 2011 season, comes on the heels of a 12-match winning streak. The skid has dropped ORU from first to third in the Summit League standings.
Sheera Sirola’s club has clinched a berth, however, in the 2011 Summit League Volleyball Championship, which begins No. 18 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
South Dakota State (12-17, 4-11 Summit League) has lost their last seven matches, including a 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18) defeat at the hands of Southern Utah on Thursday night. Junior Kelli Fiegen had 21 kills in the loss and crossed the 1,000-kill plateau for her career.
ORU won a thriller over SDSU in their first meeting this season, a 3-2 (25-15, 26-24, 23-25, 18-25, 15-10) triumph in Brookings, S.D. Elizabeth McVicker notched a career-high 20 kills in the victory, and Silva was a defensive wizard, tallying a then-career high 38 digs.
The Golden Eagles are 6-3 all-time against the Jacks, with a 4-0 record in Tulsa.
ORU plays their regular season finale on Nov. 12, when they take the trip to Cedar City, Utah for a match against Southern Utah. The tilt begins at 7 pm.
