FRISCO, Texas - Oral Roberts University junior libero Bruna Silva was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the SLC office announced today. Silva is the first ORU student-athlete to be honored with a weekly award by the conference.

Silva, a native of Niteroi, Brazil, averaged 4.88 digs per set last week in four matches at the University Plaza Invitational. She topped the 20-dig mark in three of ORU’s four matches at the event, including a 24-dig effort against host Missouri State on August 30.

For the season, Silva averages 5.14 digs per set, second-best in the SLC.

Silva was a three-time Defensive Player of the Week in the Summit League, where she earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2011.

Lamar senior Wendy Krell was the SLC Offensive Player of the Week, with ORU’s Tatum Fredeen earning weekly honorable mention status.

ORU is back in action on Tuesday, when they host Tulsa at 7 pm CT.
