ORU (8-12, 4-5 SLC) will have to rebound after a 3-2 setback to league-leading Central Arkansas on Saturday, October 13. ORU won the first two sets and led, 8-6, in the fifth set before conceding nine of the match’s final 13 points. The loss denied ORU an opportunity to get over .500 in SLC play for the first time this season.
Freshman Sadie Schaffner’s strong play was the silver lining of Saturday’s loss. The rookie set career highs against UCA with 19 kills and seven total blocks. Schaffner has tallied a combined 44 kills over ORU’s last four matches after collecting just 14 total kills in ORU’s first 16 contests.
Senior Joana Gruber continued her strong run of play against UCA, with 13 kills, 11 digs and seven blocks. The veteran has recorded double-doubles in ORU’s last two matches.
ORU’s blocking efforts continue to be a strength of the squad. The Golden Eagles tallied 18 against UCA, with Sadie Schaffner and Sheina Fernandes each collecting eight. For the season, ORU leads the SLC and ranks 26th in the NCAA Division I ranks at 2.74 digs per set.
Southeastern Louisiana is 7-12 overall, with a 2-7 Southland Conference record after winning two of their last three matches. They enter the week coming off of their biggest victory of the season, a 3-2 road victory over Stephen F. Austin on October 13.
Southeastern’s victory over the Ladyjacks snapped a seven-match Southland Conference losing streak and a 20-match SLC road losing streak dating back to Nov. 14, 2009.
Senior Courtney Donald tallied a team-high 20 kills in the victory over Stephen F. Austin, and her 3.90 digs per set averages puts her 3rd in the SLC. Libero Megan McMillin had 14 digs on Saturday, and for the season she ranks 5th in the SLC at 4.28 digs per set.
Southeastern Head Coach Geno Frugoli is 47-111 in his 6th season as a collegiate head coach, while ORU's Sheera Sirola is 178-123 in her tenth year on the Golden Eagle sideline.
The Golden Eagles are 1-0 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana, with the lone match a 3-1 ORU victory on September 20 at the Aerobics Center. Fernandes blasted 16 kills in the win over the Lions, and Bruna Silva added a season-high 32 digs.
Sirola’s club returns to the court on Saturday, October 20 against Nicholls State. Match time in Thibodaux, La., is scheduled for 2 pm CT.
