FRISCO, Texas - Oral Roberts University junior Sara Pope has been named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. The weekly award is the second of the season for Pope, who was also was honored after the opening week of the season.
Pope averaged 5.50 kills per set and hit .464 for the week as the Golden Eagles (15-4, 7-2 Southland Conference) went 2-0 as a team. On Thursday, Pope smashed 18 kills on just 30 attempts in a 3-0 victory at Nicholls State. Two days later, Pope had 15 kills in a 3-0 win at McNeese State.
For the season, Pope ranks 2nd in the Southland Conference with 3.78 kills per set and 4th in the league with a .317 hitting percentage. The Jenks native is the only player in the SLC to average more than three kills per set and have a hitting percentage over .300
Northwestern State's Keelie Arneson was named SLC Defensive Player of the Week, with ORU's Bruna Silva earning an honorable mention notation.
Pope and the Golden Eagles return home on Thursday, October 24 to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Match time at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center is scheduled for 7 pm CT.
