LEXINGTON, Ky. - Oral Roberts University junior Sara Pope was selected as an honorable mention AVCA All-South Region honoree, it was announced on Tuesday. Pope is the first ORU player to earn an AVCA postseason award since Ori Zuzic was an All-Central Region selection in 2006.

Pope led the Golden Eagles and finished 2nd in the Southland Conference with 3.65 kills per set. She also ranked 7th in the league in hitting percentage, at .294.

The Jenks native paced ORU in kills 21 times during the 29-match season, her first as a Golden Eagle. Last month, Pope was named Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year and a 1st Team All-SLC selection.

Pope was one of two SLC players honored by the AVCA on Tuesday. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi setter Logen Bourque was an honorable mention All-Southwest Region selection.

Led by Pope, the Golden Eagles finished with a 22-7 record in 2013. The 20-win season was ORU’s second in the last three years.
