Waco, Texas-The Golden Eagles dropped both games of a doubleheader against Baylor on Sunday, losing 3-2 in the first game and 8-1 in the second.
Alex Gonzalez got the start in game one and pitched six innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs. Mike Torrence (0-1) relieved Gonzalez in the seventh-inning, pitching 1.1 innings with three strikeouts, one walk and one run.
ORU jumped out to the early lead when Nate Goro hit a leadoff double in the third. Kevin Cho advanced Goro to third with a sacrifice bunt, and King picked up his second RBI of the year with a single to make it 1-0.
Baylor answered in the bottom the inning with back-to-back singles by Adam Toth and Nathan Orf. Max Muncy drove in Toth two batters later to tie the game 1-1.
ORU responded to take a 2-1 lead by scoring a run in the top of the fourth-inning after a sacrifice fly by Tyler Coker scored newcomer Jake O'Brian.
Back-to-back doubles by Baylor's John Ludy and Logan Vick in the sixth-inning tied the game 2-2.
Alex Gonzalez was replaced by Mike Torrence in the seventh-inning. Torrence struck out three of his first four batters, but loaded the bases in the eighth-inning before being replaced by Nathan Garza.
For a second straight game, Baylor freshman Michael Howard was walked with the bases loaded in the eighth to give the Bears the go-ahead run.
Dan Martony replaced Garza and ended the inning by getting Jake Miller to hit into a double play.
Kurt Giller (0-1) got his first start as a Golden Eagle in game two. He went 3.2 innings with four strikeouts and seven earned runs.
The Bears put the game out of reach with four more runs in the fourth to push the lead to 7-1, and the Golden Eagles did not threaten Baylor offensively for the rest of the game. The Bears added one more run in the seventh to make it 8-1.
Jared Schlehuber led the Golden Eagles with two hits. He was the only ORU player with multiple hits.
ORU returns to action on Tuesday, February 21, at 3 p.m. in J.L. Johnson Stadium where they host Wichita State.
