Tulsa, Okla - Drew Bowen (2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits with 10 strikeouts as ORU defeats Alcorn State, 11-1.
The Golden Eagles (4-5) were led by the hot hitting Jared Schlehuber who was 4-5 with a home run and two RBI. Cam Schiller also contributed a big chunk of the offense, batting 3-5 with a home run and three RBI.
Alcorn State (1-7) fell behind early and could never recover. Starter Steve Easter (0-1) pitched five innings, giving up six runs off eleven hits and three walks.
Jann Butler led Alcorn State offensively, scoring the only run and RBI of the game for the Braves with a solo home run in the sixth-inning.
The Golden Eagles got an insurance run for Bowen in the third-inning when Trevino knocked in Schiller a second time with a single to right-field.
Back-to-back home runs in the fourth-inning by newcomers Jake O'Brien and Tyler Coker gave ORU a 4-0 advantage, and an RBI double for Cam Schiller three batters later gave the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead. ORU scored again in the fifth off an O'Brien sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
Butler's home run in the sixth-inning was Bowen's only mistake of the game, and ORU was able to answer in the bottom of the sixth when Schiller hit his two-run blast to give ORU an 8-1 lead.
Schlehuber's third home run of the season highlighted the three-run eight-inning by the Golden Eagles. Schlehuber now leads the team with a .406 batting average.
Bowen ended the fifth, sixth, and seventh-innings with strikeouts, and he struck out the side in the ninth-inning to finish off the first complete game of the 2012 season. He now has a 3.32 ERA in 19.1 innings with 15 strikeouts in three starts this season.
The series resumes Saturday with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
