Wichita, Kan. - Freshman Tyler Coker hit a three-run inside the park homerun in the second inning to lead the Golden Eagles past Wichita State 7-1.
Coker was 3-5 with three RBI and two scored runs. The homerun was Coker's first as a Golden Eagle. Chris Williams was 2-4 with a homerun and his second consecutive two-RBI game.
Alec Smith (1-0) picked up the win after pitching six scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Wichita State (10-8) dropped its second consecutive home game to the Golden Eagles.
A.J. Ladwig (0-1) came into the game with a 0.00 ERA in 17 innings of work, but was credited with the loss after giving up five runs off six hits in six innings of work.
ORU (8-7) never left any doubt after scoring four runs in the second inning. With two outs in the inning, Chris Williams reached on an error by Dayne Parker. After Bennett Pickar singled, Coker hit his inside the park homerun to put the Golden Eagles up, 4-0.
The Golden Eagles added one more in the fifth on a Kevin Cho single that scored Coker and a two-run homerun in the sixth by Williams extended the lead to 7-0.
Conner Knight got the first hit and RBI of his career with a single to left field to score Don Lambert and give Wichita State their only run of the game.
The Golden Eagles return home for two games against Missouri State starting Friday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m.
