Fullerton, Calif.- A late inning rally by the Golden Eagles came up short, as Oral Roberts fell to No.11 Cal State Fullerton 5-3 in game two of a three game series at Goodwin Field.

The Golden Eagles (9-12) are now 0-5 all-time against Cal State Fullerton (14-7). The last victory against a ranked opponent for the Golden Eagles came against No.10 TCU on June 5, 2011 in the Fort Worth Regional.

Mike Torrence (1-4) was given the loss after pitching 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs off six hits with six strikeouts.

Kenny Matthews (3-0) earned the win for CSF after throwing 5.2 innings and striking out 11 Golden Eagles. All-American Michael Lorenzen earned his eighth save of the season and contributed three hits with an RBI and stolen base from the plate.

Kevin Cho and Jose Trevino were both 2-4 with an RBI and a walk for ORU.

ORU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kevin Cho drove in his sixth run of the year with an RBI single that plated Brandon King. The Golden Eagles threatened to score more, but could not take advantage after loading the bases, and the Titans struck out the side to end the ORU threat.

CSF tied the game in the third inning with a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Trajano scoring Carlos Lopez, then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Lorenzen.

Cal State Fullerton added another run in the sixth inning with a two out single by Casey Watkins that brought Ivory Thomas in to score, then pushed the lead to 5-1 in the seventh inning after an RBI single by Matt Chapman and a wild pitch by Dan Martony allowed Greg Valasquez to score.

The Golden Eagles answered back in the top of the eighth when Jose Trevino represented the tying run as he came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Trevino slapped a single into left field driving in Brandon Healy to cut the CSF lead to 5-2. Jared Schlehuber hit into a fielders choice in the next at-bat, and Tyler Coker scored to make it 5-3. But the ORU threat was broken after Bennett Pickar struck out to swinging to end the inning.

The Golden Eagles had one more chance to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Tyler Coker struck out swinging with Nate Goro on third base to end the game.

ORU finishes the series with Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at 8 p.m. Before traveling to Norman, Oklahoma to take on No.17 Oklahoma.
