ORU (10-12) beat the Titans for the first time ever, ending a five game losing streak and earning their first ranked victory since June 5, 2011 when they defeated No. 10 TCU in the Forth Worth Regional of the NCAA tournament.
Cal State Fullerton (14-8) got a great effort from Grahamm Wiest (1-3) who pitched eight innings allowing just four hits and striking out seven, but a two-run home run by Jose Trevino in the fourth inning would be all the run support Gonzalez needed to win the pitching duel.
Gonzalez allowed just five hits on the night and improved to 2-1 on the season.
It was all ORU from the beginning as Trevino's home run gave ORU an early 2-0 lead. Gonzalez set the Titans down in order four times, walking just one.
ORU added an insurance run when Jared Schlehuber doubled to score Tyler Coker in the ninth inning, then Matt Rush closed the door on the Titans, getting three straight outs to earn his third save of the season.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Norman, Oklahoma on March 27 to take on the Sooners before returning home for a three game series against Louisiana Tech.
