TULSA, Okla. - A very tough baseball schedule continues this weekend as Oral Roberts is set to host No. 8 Cal State Fullerton at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
First pitch for Friday's contest is set for 6:30 p.m., followed by 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 o'clock first pitch on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles are looking to snap their longest losing streak since 2006 as they have dropped six straight, most recently falling to Texas on Tuesday, 4-3. In the loss at Texas, Tyler Boss picked up two triples to right-center, the first Golden Eagles to record a pair of triples in a game since Matt VanDerBosch in 2004.
On the mound, the ORU pitching staff continues to mold into the rotation the coaches would like. Alex Gonzalez hasn't pitched less than seven innings this season, striking out an average of over nine opponents a game.
While the Titans of Fullerton are an above average team at the plate, it is their young pitching that has made a statement in their 13-3 start this season. Of all the pitchers that have made appearances in 2013, all but one has been a freshman or sophomore.
Fullerton leads the overall series against the Golden Eagles, 6-1. ORU's lone victory came last season in game three in California, 3-0. Gonzalez earned the victory on the mound and Jose Trevino hit a two-run homerun in the fourth.
For Friday's contest, ORU baseball and ORU athletic marketing are teaming up with the Folds of Honor Foundations (FHF) for the organizations "Text to Donate" campaign. The colors at the game will be presented by the National Guard Color Guard, there will be a swear-in ceremony during pre-game for the U.S. Army, the first pitch will be thrown by members of FHF and an ORU Army ROTC member will perform the national anthem.
During the pregame activities, there will be an opportunity to participate in the campaign.
