TULSA, Okla. – On Friday, the Oral Roberts University baseball team goes for its fourth straight Southland Conference series win as they travel to face Lamar in a three-game set. First pitch in Beaumont, Texas, is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Last weekend, the Golden Eagles (15-26, 10-8 SLC) took two of three games from Nicholls State at J.L. Johnson Stadium, thanks in part to Jose Trevino’s .583 series average at the plate and pitching gems by Alex Gonzalez and Tim Zufall. For his efforts, which included two three-run home runs and a double, Trevino was named the Southland Hitter of the Week.
The series against Lamar (33-12, 12-6 SLC) looks to be potential pitcher’s duel. All three projected starters for the Cardinals boasts sub-3.00 earned run averages, while Friday starter Jonathan Dziedzic (6-1, 2.84) is second only to Gonzalez with 83 strikeouts.
Gonzalez (6-4, 2.08) enters Friday’s contest with 94 strikeouts, which is fourth in the nation.
The Cardinals are currently tied with Sam Houston State atop the conference with, while the Golden Eagles are locked in a four-way tied with Central Arkansas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin for fourth. The six teams, including Southeastern Louisiana who is alone in third place, are all within two games of each other.
