Blue completes sweep of Gold in Fall World Series
TULSA, Okla. – The 2013 ORU Fall World Series concluded over the weekend as the Blue team completed a three-game sweep with a 4-0 win over the Gold team in the intrasquad event. Overall, Blue outscored Gold by a total of 19 runs to six after taking game one, 8-5, and game two, 7-1.
Logan Domenico had a big series as he rattled off five hits in seven at bats, including a double off the base of the wall during game two. Domenico drove in six runners and walked four times. All-Southland returner Tyler Boss also had five hits and scored four times, while newcomer Anthony Sequeira earned four hits and scored four times during the first two contests.
Junior Phillip Wilson highlighted the pitching for the Blue team with five innings of two hit ball to earn the victory in game two. Jacob McDavid entered the sixth inning of game one, throwing the final two innings and striking out two for the win.
In the series finale, Pepe Gomez took the mound and threw five shutout innings en route to the victory.
Leading the Gold batters at the plate was Audie Afenir with five hits, including three in the series opener on Thursday. Jose Trevino picked up four hits in the three-game set, while Graham McIntyre added the highlight of the series with a solo blast over the left field foul pole in game one.
ORU takes the field in the season opener on February 14 as the Golden Eagles host Southeast Missouri State in the first of three at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
