Coupled with Saturday’s 7-0 win over Oklahoma, the Golden Eagles eliminated one-quarter of the 2010 College World Series field in their last two games.
With ORU (38-21) clinging to a 4-3 lead, Elder drove a 1-2 offering from Teddy Nowell over the wall in right field for his second career post-season grand slam to give the Golden Eagles an 8-3 lead. The home run was the sixth career post-season homer for Elder in 12 career postseason games.
TCU (43-19) scratched across a run in the top of the ninth but got nothing more
After both teams failed to score in the first two innings, TCU broke through with two runs in the top of the third. The first run scored when leftfielder Chris Elder mishandled a ground ball single by Jantzen Witte, allowing Jerome Pena to score from second. Joe Weik followed two batters later with a sacrifice fly to give the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead.
ORU answered with four runs in the bottom of the third. RBI singles by Brandon King and Cam Schiller, a sacrifice fly by Jared Schlehuber and a T.J. Bennett run-scoring base hit gave the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead.
TCU cut the lead in half in the sixth. Sean Johnson relieved Joe Spring – who tossed three shutout innings – and allowed a lead-off walk, a balk and an RBI double as the Frogs pulled to within 4-3.
ORU finished with 12 hits, with Brandon King 3-for-3 effort leading the way. Baligod and Bennett Pickar each had two hits.
Spring (5-1) got the win after allowing one hit in 2.2 innings. In all, six ORU pitchers allowed just eight hits.
