Trevino Rejoins USA Baseball Collegiate National Team
Trevino spent two weeks training with Team USA as an alternate earlier in the summer, participating in four exhibition games and the intra-squad Prospect Classic in Durham, N.C. The Corpus Christi, Texas native exploded on June 30, hitting a grand slam and tallying six RBI in a Prospect Classic victory.
With that strong performance, Trevino has earned a roster spot for the Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week, one of the premier events in amateur baseball. Team USA opens the tournament on July 14 against Japan and will face Cuba, Puerto Rico, Chinese Taipei and the hosts from Holland before medal play starts on July 20. The gold medal game is scheduled for July 22 at Haarlem’s Pim Mulier Stadium.
"We are very proud of Jose for earning this opportunity,” said ORU Head Baseball Coach Ryan Folmar. “Not many players are afforded opportunities like this, and I am sure that Jose will do a fantastic job representing our program and our country.”
Trevino batted .317 as a freshman in 2012, with 13 home runs and 57 RBI. He was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America, Louisville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
