TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Eagles baseball squad looks to regain momentum in conference play on Friday afternoon as Oral Roberts travels to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on Stephen F. Austin in a three-game set. First pitch of game one is set for 6:30 p.m.
It is a matchup of two teams that has had up and down seasons, as the Golden Eagles enter with a record of 9-18 (4-2 in SLC) and the Lumberjacks hold a 12-16 mark, 3-3 in Southland action. The Jacks fell in their midweek contest against Houston Baptist while the Golden Eagles haven’t played since last Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Despite being in the lower half of the conference in overall offense, the Jacks are represented at the top of the individual batting list by Hunter Dozier with a .429 average and Ricardo Sanchez who is third in the league, hitting .348.
Setting up a potential pitcher’s duel in the opening game with current conference pitcher of the week Alex Gonzalez on the mound ORU, SFA’s Chase Greening is fifth in the conference with a 2.45 earned run average and has struck out 38 opposing batters.
This weekend’s conference series is just the fourth time the Golden Eagles and Jacks have met on the diamond, with ORU winning the three previous contests in 1988-89.
