TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University baseball team looks to continue its momentum in Southland Conference play on Friday as they host Nicholls State in the first game of three at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

ORU will sponsor a pair of special events during the weekend. On Friday, ORU athletics will team up with The Autism Center of Tulsa for Autism Awareness Night. On Sunday, Miss Teen Grand Lake Caroline Friesenhahn will be raising money for her “Fill A Backpack” campaign partnership with the Regional Food Bank.

The Golden Eagles (13-24, 8-7 SLC) have won their previous two conference series, 2-1, against Southeastern Louisiana at home and Sam Houston State on the road. ORU is currently in a tie with Central Arkansas for sixth place. However, they are just two games behind Stephen F. Austin who leads the conference.

Junior Alex Gonzalez has had a solid 2013 campaign as he enters the weekend series ranking seventh in the NCAA in strikeouts with 82. His strikeout total also leads the Southland and his 2.15 ERA is third best in the league.

Nicholls State (22-20, 5-10 SLC) is riding a five-game winning streak into the series. During mid-week play on Tuesday, they topped future Southland opponent New Orleans, 16-5, after sweeping McNeese State last weekend. Matt Richard and Keith Cormier each boast a .333 average to lead the Colonels, while Saturday starter Kory Delange has been the most consistent pitcher on the mound with a 2.42 ERA.

Friday’s showdown marks the first time Oral Roberts and Nicholls State will faceoff on the diamond.
