TULSA, Okla. – The start of Southland Conference play could not have been scripted any better for the Oral Roberts University baseball team. Struggling against a tough non-conference schedule, injuries and in general some bad luck, the team rallied the troops when it mattered and earned a three-game sweep over No. 23 Central Arkansas.
It was the first time in the “modern era” in which ORU has completed a three-game sweep over a nationally-ranked opponent.
Down one entering the bottom of the ninth in game three, Jose Trevino led off the inning with a game-tying home run. With the bases loaded and only one out, Nate Goro stepped to the plate and knocked one into right field, scoring Tyler Boss and giving the Golden Eagles the sweep.
Sitting at 5-15 entering the series, the Golden Eagles won four of the next five games, and eventually moved up to finish third in the Southland Conference, a league that had two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
