No. 12 UCLA Completes Series Sweep of ORU, 9-1

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-Twelfth-ranked UCLA used two big innings to secure a 9-1 win over Oral Roberts and three-game series sweep, Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Bruins (16-0) wasted no time in getting on the board when Blair Dunlap led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run for a 1-0 lead.

Following the lead-off home run, ORU starter Bryce Smolen (1-1) kept UCLA off the board until the fourth. The Bruins scored five runs in the inning against Smolen and reliever Mark Guest, taking a 6-0 lead.

ORU (5-10) scored its lone run in the top of the sixth when Chris Elder drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs.  The run made it a 6-1 game.

The Bruins added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as they surged to a 9-1 lead.

UCLA pitching limited the Golden Eagles to just five hits, four of which were singles. Rob Rasmussen (2-0) earned the victory for the Bruins, allowing one run on two hits and striking out eight in 5.2 innings.

Smolen suffered the loss for ORU, surrendering five runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they host Wichita State in a two-game midweek series, beginning 7 p.m., Tuesday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
