TEMPE, Ariz.-Oral Roberts scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning and relievers Dan Martony and Matt Rush combined to hold No. 9 Arizona State scoreless over the final three innings as the Golden Eagles earned a 5-2 win over the Sun Devils, Sunday at Packard Stadium.

In the finale of a three-game series ORU (8-7) finally salvaged a win after a pair of narrow losses on Friday and Saturday. The loss was just the fourth this season for the Sun Devils (15-4).

After both teams failed to score over the first four innings, the Golden Eagles erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth. T.J. Bennett started the scoring with an RBI double, plating Cam Schiller for a 1-0 lead. Brett Sowers sacrificed Bennett to third and Brett Burch knocked in Bennett with a single to left for a 2-0 lead.

Joey Winiecki moved Burch to second with a single and Spencer Barnett drove in Burch with his own single as the Golden Eagles grabbed a 3-0 advantage. Brandon King capped the scoring with a two-run double as ORU led 5-0.

The Golden Eagles held ASU scoreless until the sixth inning. Austin Barnes knocked in the first run with a ground out and Joey DeMichele followed with a run-scoring single to get the Sun Devils within 5-2.

Martony entered the game to start the seventh and gave up just two hits. Rush, after allowing the first two batters to reach in the ninth, set down the next three Sun Devils to earn his third save of the season.

Tyler Sparks (1-0) picked up the win with 2.0 shutout innings in relief of starter Drew Bowen, who came out after two innings due to pitch count.

ASU starter Brady Rodgers (2-1) suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 4.1 innings.

King and Bennett had two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles as ORU collected nine on the day.

ORU returns to action when they open a three-game series against Missouri State, 3 p.m., Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The second and third games of the series will be played in Springfield, Mo.
