Trailing 5-3 entering the inning, the Razorbacks (27-9) opened with back-to-back singles by Jarrod McKinney and Kyle Robinson. Collin Kuhn followed with a two-run single, tying the game at 5-5. James McCann’s RBI double two batters later scored Kuhn and the Razorbacks gained a 6-5 lead.
Relievers Colby Suggs (2-0) and Nolan Sanburn retired the Golden Eagles (17-14) in order over the last two innings to secure the victory for Arkansas.
Dominic Ficociello put the Razorbacks on the board first, launching a two-run home run in the top of the fourth.
Down 2-0, ORU came right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Brandon King started the fireworks with a two-run triple, and Brett Sowers followed with a double to deep left-center field to give ORU a 3-2 lead. After Spencer Barnett struck out, Bennett Pickar belted a two-run homer to right field to put ORU up 5-2.
Arkansas loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth. Dan Martony relieved Alec Smith with the bags packed and hit the first batter he saw to get Arkansas within 5-3. But the junior right-hander minimized the damage by inducing a pair of groundouts to end the threat.
Alex Gonzalez (3-5), the sixth of seven pitchers for ORU, suffered the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in the eighth. Making his first relief appearance of the season after 10 previous starts, Gonzalez struck out a pair.
King led ORU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. No Arkansas player had more than one hit.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they open a four-game Summit League series, 6:30 p.m., Friday at North Dakota State.
