TULSA, Okla. – After taking two out of three from Southeastern Louisiana last weekend, the Oral Roberts baseball team faces its second first place team in as many weeks as the Golden Eagles head to Huntsville, Texas, for a three-game set against Sam Houston State.
Game one is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and against on Sunday at 1 p.m.
SHSU (22-15) is tied with SLU atop the conference with an 8-4 league record. The two teams are also joined by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin with the same mark. ORU (11-23) is also in a four-way tie with Lamar, Central Arkansas and McNeese State with a 6-6 record for the fifth spot.
The Golden Eagles got some much needed rest as they were idle from mid-week action following their series victory over SLU. After their trip to Huntsville, they return home for a day before heading Kansas on Tuesday and Wichita State on Wednesday.
On the flip side, the Bearkats of Sam Houston State had a pair of mid-week games at home. On Tuesday, they went into extras with Texas A&M, beating the Aggies in 11 innings, 9-8, and batted the elements on Wednesday in a victory over Prairie View A&M, 12-8.
The ORU pitching staff, second in the Southland in team ERA during conference play, has the task of facing a lineup that has four batters hitting better than .300, led by Kevin Miller with a .358 average.
The Golden Eagles and ‘Kats have previously spit a pair of games. SHSU won the first meeting in 1999 at the Gateway Classic in Laredo, Texas, 13-12, while ORU won the next season at the Houston Tournament, 6-4.
