TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University and Head Coach Scott Sutton have released the Golden Eagles’ 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule, a slate that includes Final Four participant Wichita State and an appearance in the Cancun Challenge.

“It is obviously a very challenging schedule,” said Sutton. “I like the fact that some of the away games are close enough for fans and family members to travel. We are playing teams who have had great success in recent years, like Wisconsin, Kansas State, Baylor and Wichita State. It is a great challenge for this team and I think those games will help prepare us for Southland Conference play.”

After a pair of exhibition contests against Northwood (Nov. 2) and Rogers State (Nov. 6), ORU will start the regular season on Nov. 10 against cross-town rival Tulsa in the PSO Mayors Cup game. The Golden Eagles travel to Kansas State (Nov. 13) before returning to the Mabee Center for a date with Texas State on Nov. 16.

Road games against Saint Louis (Nov. 21) and Wisconsin (Nov. 23) kickoff the 2013 Cancun Challenge before the eight-team field heads south to the Aventura Palace Resort for two more games in Cancun just before Thanksgiving.

“We went to Cancun four years ago and it was a great experience. It is a well-run tournament. The travel is hard but it is a wonderful place to visit. When you recruit players and tell them they are going to get to experience different things, certainly Cancun is an exciting trip for them. We will have fun but our number one priority is to go down there and win two games.”

ORU hosts Cameron (Dec. 3) and Missouri State (Dec. 13), with a visit to Charles Koch Arena in between to face the Wichita State Shockers (Dec. 7).  A return game from the 2012 BracketBuster sends the Golden Eagles to Akron on Dec. 16, and the final nonconference home game of the year will be held on Dec. 21 as ORU hosts Dallas Baptist.

The Golden Eagles close out the calendar year with their second Big 12 opponent of the year in Baylor on Dec. 30.

The start of the new year starts Southland Conference play and it will be league newcomer Houston Baptist (Jan. 2) up first as the Huskies and Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi  (Jan. 4) come to the Mabee Center for the first conference weekend.

Of the four new teams in the Southland Conference this year, ORU only plays HBU twice, playing road games at Abilene Christian (Jan. 16) and Incarnate Word (Jan. 18) and hosting New Orleans on Feb. 6.

Hall of Fame Night will be Jan. 25 vs. Northwestern State and the Homecoming game will be Feb. 8 vs. Southeastern Louisiana.

The 2014 Southland Conference Tournament will be held at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas on March 12-16.
