TULSA—Former Oral Roberts standout Larry Owens has earned a return trip to the NBA as the Washington Wizards signed the forward for the remainder of the season.

Owens, who previously signed a pair of 10-day contracts and appeared in seven games with the San Antonio Spurs in January, had been playing with the NBA Developmental League’s Tulsa 66ers. He made his debut with the Wizards on Wednesday, scoring nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in 17 minutes in Washington’s loss to Indiana.

In eight NBA games this season, Owens is averaging 2.3 points and shooting 63.6 percent from the field.

Owens lettered two seasons at ORU (2004-06), helping the Golden Eagles to a pair of Mid-Continent Conference regular-season titles, and the Mid-Con tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2006.

He was named Mid-Con Defensive player of the year and 1st-team All-Mid-Con as a senior when he averaged 12.5 points and 7.9 rebounds in starting all 33 games. Owens averaged 10.9 points and 7.7 rebounds in 66 career games at ORU.
