TULSA, Okla.-A four time AP Honorable Mention All-American at ORU in the 1980's, Mark Acres' number 42 will be lifted to the Mabee Center rafters in a ceremony at halftime of the ORU men's basketball game against Lamar on Thursday, Jan. 24.

"I am obviously honored, humbled and reflective of days gone by," said Acres.

Acres was a member of the 1981 USA Basketball Olympic Festival Team, and led ORU to the NCAA Tournament in 1983-84 and was the conference player of the year. He was drafted 40th overall in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks and spent eight years in the NBA.

"The Acres name is a large part of our storied basketball tradition at ORU, and Mark is a big part of that," said Director of Athletics Mike Carter. "He is certainly one of the best all-around student athletes to ever play for ORU and this honor is well deserved."

Acres is one of just seven players in ORU history to score at least 2,000 career points and ranks in the top 10 in 10 different career statistical categories, including points, rebounds and blocks. He remains the only player to have led the team in scoring and rebounding in all four seasons.

This will be the fourth basketball number to be retired at ORU, and the third from the men's team, as Acres joins Anthony Roberts (15) and Richard Fuqua (24), as well as Krista Ragan-Binum (11) from the women's team.
