Postgame Quotes vs. No. 9/11 Baylor
Head Coach Scott Sutton
“I just told the team, I have been coaching for 15 years and there have been very few games where we have been run out of the gym and tonight, that is what happened. Baylor is a very good team and I thought they played well tonight. It is a tough matchup for us. We are not a very good zone team because we don’t shoot it very well as evident in us going 1-13 [from 3’s]. They are so long and athletic, it is hard to get good clean looks at the basket. I thought we hung around for a while, but in the second half they ran us out of the gym and that is disappointing. We have played three top ten teams, and I think this team is the most gifted team we have played as far as athleticism and size. They are very deserving of their ranking.”
On Baylor’s size advantage:
“Size bothers Shawn [Glover] although he gets 22 points. It is tough when he has a 7-1 guy on him. I thought we did a terrible job of attacking the zone. I actually thought in the second half we did a little bit better. We got the ball inside. I thought Denell [Henderson] played like the player we recruited, and we need him to play like that. We don’t shoot it well, and our guards aren’t great at penetrating. They are small and when you go against a team as big as they are it is not a very good matchup.
On Baylor’s Depth:
“The first half, Cory Jefferson got in foul trouble and didn’t play very much, I think he played five minutes. We did a great job on O’Neal, Gathers, and Heslip who only had one three, but it was Prince that killed us. He gets 14 first-half points. I thought Austin played as aggressive as I have seen him play in the first half with twelve shots. (Baylor) is deep and very, very talented. Like I said, they are very deserving of being a top ten team.”
