Golden Eagle legend Krista Binam joined the ORU women’s basketball coaching staff on May 18, 2012. In her first season as an assistant, Binam helped guide Oral Roberts to the Southland Conference Championship, tasting postseason glory for the third time as part of the Golden Eagle program.

With the Golden Eagles, Binam is responsible for scouting, recruiting and player development, and she plays an integral role in all aspects of the ORU program.

Binam’s influence on the Golden Eagle roster was undeniable in her first season on the ORU staff. Under Binam’s watchful eye, ORU’s guards established themselves as the finest group in the Southland Conference. As a team, ORU hit 37.7% of their three-point field goal attempts in 2012-13, tops in the SLC, and four of the league’s top-six outside shooters came from ORU.

Prior to joining the ORU staff in 2012, Binam spent nine years as a high school head coach in Eastern Oklahoma. From 2003-06, Binam coached at Glenpool High School, leading the Warriors to a pair of 25-win seasons. Binam then spent four seasons at Coweta High School, taking the Tigers to the OSSAA State Tournament in 2007 and 2008.

Binam spent the 2010-11 season at Indianola High School, and the last stop of her high school career came at Owasso High School during the 2011-12 season. For her high school career, Binam posted a cumulative record of 158 wins and 66 losses.

Binam (formerly Ragan) is best known by Golden Eagle fans for her record-breaking collegiate career in the ORU navy and gold. From 1996-2002, Binam rewrote ORU’s record books and laid the groundwork for the program’s unprecedented level of success.

The Indianola native is a two-time Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year, and she earned Kodak All-American honors in 2002. Binam led ORU to a pair of Mid-Continent Conference championships and the first two NCAA Tournament bids in school history. She ended her career as the Mid-Con’s career scoring leader, with 2,152 points, and she still ranks as ORU’s third leading scorer.

Binam is the only ORU women’s player to have her number retired by the program, as her legendary No. 11 jersey was raised to the Mabee Center rafters on Jan. 28, 2012, during halftime of a game between ORU and former Summit League rival UMKC.

“It is a joy to bring Krista home to ORU and our women’s basketball program, said Head Coach Misti Cussen upon Binam’s arrival. “During her time as a player, she set the standard for our teams on and off of the floor with her intensity and passion. I am confident that she will be a tremendous asset to our current players, and we are thrilled to have her rejoin the Golden Eagles.”

Binam is married to former ORU men’s basketball player Nathan Binam, and the couple has a daughter, Lakyn (1).
