Golden Eagles Return to Action at UALR

Oral Roberts (2-1) was beaten by Arkansas, 80-57, on Monday night at the Mabee Center. Sophomore Bernadett Balla had a career night in the loss, scoring 26 points.
Balla was 7-for-15 from the floor and 12-for 13 from the free throw line. The Pecs, Hungary native matched her previous career high of 18 points at the halftime break.
ORU hit seven of their first 14 shots but finished the game at 33.3% (18-for-54) from the field. The Golden Eagles were just 2-for-15 (13.3%) from three-point range.
Kevi Luper and Jaci Bigham each chipped in 10 points for the Golden Eagles, with Bigham adding five assists.
UALR improved to 2-1 on Monday night with a hard-fought 47-43 victory over SMU in Dallas. The Trojans also own a 73-64 victory over Tulsa from November 12 and a 78-68 loss to Missouri State that they suffered on November 15.
Guard Taylor Gault paced the Trojans with 15 points in the victory over SMU and poured in 33 points in UALR’s season-opening win over Tulsa. She leads the squad with 21.3 points per game and is shooting 50.9% from the field.
The Trojans captured the Sun Belt Conference tournament title last season and fell to Delaware in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, 72-43.
UALR has won five straight Sun Belt Conference West Division titles and was the SBC’s preseason pick to win the division again in 2012-13.
UALR Head Coach Joe Foley is in his tenth season with the Trojans and has a record of 175-106. His overall record in 25 seasons as a head coach is 631-187. ORU's Misti Cussen is 2-1 in her first season leading the Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts is 2-0 all-time against UALR. The Golden Eagles knocked off the Trojans, 78-63, on December 13, 2011 in the last meeting between the two teams. Luper poured in 31 points in the victory, while Balla grabbed eight rebounds. Britteni Williams led the Trojans with 17 points off the bench.
UALR was one of two NCAA Tournament participants that Oral Roberts knocked off in 2011-12.
ORU’s only other meeting with UALR came on January 26, 1988, an 84-66 victory in Little Rock. The victory was part of a five-game winning streak for the Golden Eagles, who finished 13-14 that season.
The Golden Eagles return to the court on Thursday, November 29, when they face Missouri State. Game time in Springfield, Mo., is booked for 7 pm CT.
