ORU Hosts Nicholls at Midpoint of SLC Schedule

Oral Roberts (8-10, 5-3 SLC) is coming off of a 72-71 loss to McNeese State on January 26. McNeese’s Arianna James hit a second-chance jumper at the buzzer to lift the Cowgirls over ORU, handing the Golden Eagles their first last-second loss since January 9, 2010, a 74-72 setback against IPFW.
Taylor Cooper was 6-for-7 from three-point range against McNeese and scored 20 points for the second consecutive game, matching a career high. Cooper also led the Golden Eagles with five assists, another career high.
Jaci Bigham drained four three-pointers and scored 20 points in the loss, her second 20-point effort in eight days, while Sarah Shelton tallied a double-double for the second consecutive game, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
ORU led by as many as 11 points in the first half and held a seven-point lead going into the halftime locker room. The loss is just the second this season for Misti Cussen’s club when leading at the break.
The Golden Eagles hit a season-high 12 three-point field goals in the defeat.
Nicholls State is 12-7 (4-4 SLC) after falling to Sam Houston State, 70-63, on January 26 in Thibodaux, La.
Senior Alisha Allen has been Nicholls State’s top producer this season, averaging 15.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 49.4% from the floor.
Senior KK Babin led the Colonels with 17 points and five assists in the loss to Sam Houston, and she topped the 1,000-career point plateau in the loss.
NSU Head Coach DoBee Plaisance is 41-93 in her fifth season at Nicholls State and 198-316 in her 18th season overall at the collegiate level.
ORU's Cussen sports an 8-10 record in her first season leading the Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts is 0-1 all-time against Nicholls State, with the lone meeting falling on January 5, a 69-66 Colonel victory in Thibodaux, La.
ORU led the January 5 meeting with Nicholls, 66-65, with 25 seconds left, but the Golden Eagles turned the ball over on two of their last three possessions and gave up four points in the game’s final nine seconds.
Shelton led ORU with 21 points in the loss, while Allen had 19 points to pace Nicholls.
The Golden Eagles cap their season-long four-game home stand on Saturday, February 2, when they host Southeastern Louisiana. Tip time is scheduled for 5 pm CT.
