ORU Closes Home Stand vs. Southeastern Louisiana

Oral Roberts (9-10, 6-3 Southland Conference) dominated the second half and coasted to an easy victory over Nicholls State, 84-56, on Thursday night at the Mabee Center.
Senior Kevi Luper broke out for her best performance in Southland Conference action, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Luper was 10-for-17 from the field, swiped three steals and blocked two shots.
Senior Jaci Bigham added 20 points, seven assists and six steals. The McAlester native was 7-for-14 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range.
The senior duo topped the 20-point mark in the same game for the first time since Nov. 27, 2010, a 93-86 loss to Houston.
Joining the double-double party was Sarah Shelton, who scored 14 points and snatched 10 rebounds. The junior has collected a double-double in three straight games and topped the 10-rebound mark in four straight games.
ORU held a slim lead, 25-24, with 3:06 left in the first half before going on a 38-11 run over the next 11:08 to build an insurmountable lead.
ORU’s 84-point output was their largest of the season against an NCAA Division I opponent.
Bigham enters Saturday's game just 11 assists shy of matching Leah Cannon’s ORU career record of 603 assists. The senior has tallied 11 assists or more five times in her collegiate career, including the first meeting with SLU this season.
Southeastern Louisiana is 9-11 (2-7 SLC) after stunning front runner Central Arkansas, 70-64, on Thursday night in Conway, Ark. Elizabeth Styles and Brandi Simmons led the Lady Lions with 16 points each in the win, with Simmons adding a game-high 13 rebounds.
Junior Aja Gibson scored just four points in the win over UCA but leads Southeastern on the season with 11.1 points per game.
SLU has won their last two games, including a 66-54 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, after losing eight straight games from December 29-January 24.
Southeastern Head Coach Lori Davis Jones is 135-171 in her 11th season at SLU and 313-268 in her 19th season overall.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 9-10 in her first season.
Oral Roberts is 1-0 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana, with the lone victory coming on January 3, 2013, an 81-62 triumph in Hammond, La. Luper and Shelton scored 18 points each to pace the Golden Eagles in the win over the Lady Lions, while Bigham tallied 14 points and 11 assists.
Five SLU players scored in double-figures in the first meeting, led by Gibson and Jameika Hoskins with 12 points each.
With a victory on Saturday, the Golden Eagles would reach the .500 mark for the first time since December 5, 2012, when they improved to 3-3 after a 96-34 pounding of Evangel.
The Golden Eagles return to road action on Thursday, January 7, when they face Northwestern State. Game time in Natchitoches, La., is scheduled for 5:30 pm CT.
