Golden Eagles Battle McNeese State
ORU (5-13, 4-4 Southland Conference) is 0-10 on the road this season after falling in wire-to-wire fashion at the hands of Nicholls, 71-60, on Thursday night in Thibodaux, La. Kaylan Mayberry was the lone ORU player in double-figures, with 17 points, while Bernadett Balla pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
Christian Key’s run of four-straight double-digit scoring efforts concluded on Thursday night, as she scored just seven points on 2-for-4 shooting. But the senior continues to lead ORU with 14.0 points per game.
McNeese State is 11-8 (4-4 Southland Conference) after falling to Central Arkansas, 65-50, on Thursday night in Lake Charles. Sophomore guard Allison Baggett leads the Cowgirls with 17.3 points per game, while senior forward Cecilia Okoye averages 12.2 points per game
ORU and McNeese are tied with Northwestern for 7th in the Southland Conference standings with matching 4-4 league records. The top eight teams will qualify for the Southland Conference Tournament
ORU went 1-2 last season against McNeese, dropping both regular season meetings (72-71 in Tulsa and 76-71 in Lake Charles). But the Golden Eagles won the showdown that mattered, 79-66, in a Southland Conference Tournament semifinal matchup in Katy, Texas.
