Kansas City, MO—The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team dropped their second game in a row, falling 72-69 to the UMKC Kangaroos Monday evening in the SRC Center.
Amber Carver logged her best game yet as a Golden Eagle, posting her first career double-double with season-highs of 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Missing their floor general, Jaci Bigham, for the first full game due to a knee injury, ORU failed to find a good offensive rhythm in the opening half, falling behind by 11 early on and eventually trailing 38-42 heading into the break.
The Golden Eagles reeled UMKC back to within two (45-47) by the 16:00 mark and took their first lead of the second half on a Kevi Luper long-ball with 15:30 showing.
The lead was short-lived however, as Dayon Hall-Jones sank a three of her own on the next possession, followed by back-to-back jumpers by Kim Nezianya and Jade Tinner which put the hosts back in command 54-50.
Tired and shorthanded, ORU climbed right back to knot things up at 65-all as Christian Key drew nothing but net on a deep three with 5:23 remaining.
The following two minutes featured five ties and five lead changes, before an Ashli Hill put-back gave UMKC a narrow 78-77 lead with under a minute left.
Following an ORU turnover on the next trip down, Hall-Jones put the finishing touches on the UMKC win with a trey from the right wing that gave the Kangaroos a two possession lead with only seconds to go.
Jordan Pyle chipped in a double-double of her own with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Luper scored a game-best 20 points on 7-22 shooting.
With the loss, ORU falls to 17-9 and 13-2 in the conference. The Golden Eagles still need only two wins to clinch the Summit League regular season title. UMKC improves to 12-13 overall and 7-7 in league play.
The Golden Eagles take the floor once again next Saturday, as they take on Centenary at 2:00 p.m. in Shreveport, Louisiana.
