The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team is back in the Mabee Center on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. as they take on Western Illinois in the final weekend of regular season action. Already holding at least a share of the Summit League regular season title, ORU is one win away from outright clinching their second Summit Championship in as many years.
Scouting the Leathernecks
The Western Illinois Leathernecks enter Saturday’s contest with a 7-19 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the Summit League. The Leathernecks stumble into the game on a six game losing skid dating back to February 5. The last WIU victory came thanks to a 48-43 home win over IUPUI on January 29.
Sadie Webb leads the way for the Leathernecks with 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The 5-11 junior guard is shooting 42% from the floor and 78% from the free throw line.
As a team, WIU is averaging 55 points per game, while giving up 63.
ORU trails 15-16 in a series that dates back to 1995. The Golden Eagles won the first five games from 1995-99 over WIU, but it has been a back-and-forth battle from that point on. Most recently, ORU pulled out a tough 68-66 win over the Leathernecks on 12/2/10 in Macomb, when Jaci Bigham sank a floater in the lane with time winding down. The last time WIU visited the Mabee Center, the Golden Eagles logged an 82-52 win on 2/15/10. Kevi Luper led the way in that contest with 25 points and six steals.
Following the Western Illinois contest, ORU wraps up the regular season as they host IUPUI on Monday at 7:05 p.m.
