The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team will tip-off the postseason on Thursday as they take on Texas Christian University in the opening round of the 2011 Women’s NIT. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on the campus of Texas Christian in Fort Worth.
ORU earned a spot in this year’s tournament thanks to a 16-2 conference record and a second-straight Summit League regular season title. Overall, the Golden Eagles stand at 21-10 on the year and most recently dropped a 62-96 decision to Oakland in the conference semifinals on March 7.
The TCU Horned Frogs boast a 22-10 record on the year, including a solid 13-3 showing in the Mountain West Conference. Seeded #2 in the Mountain West, TCU had rattled off four-straight wins before stumbling in overtime to #5 Utah in the conference title game on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles will be making their second-consecutive trip to the WNIT, and third as a program. Just last season ORU took a 23-9 record into the tournament, before falling to Missouri State in the opening round.
“Last year’s WNIT was the first experience for this group and it was hard for them to appreciate the value of postseason play,” stated head coach Jerry Finkbeiner. “This year our team understands how special this opportunity is and we look forward to the chance to compete.”
Tickets for the game are $6 for adults and $5 for youth. All seating is general admission. Fans should contact the TCU ticket office at (817) 257-7967 to purchase tickets. Live video and audio will also be available.
The winner of Friday’s game will take on the winner of the Southern vs. Tulane contest in round two.
