Monday’s game is the final home appearance for seniors Jordan Pyle, Georgia Jones and Dominique Allen. The trio has combined to lead ORU to a pair of Summit League regular season titles and WNIT appearances during their collegiate careers.
ORU (16-9, 10-4 Summit League) won the first leg of their home stand on Saturday afternoon, an 84-69 triumph over Western Illinois. Junior Kevi Luper led all scorers with 31 points in the victory.
Without Pyle, who missed the game due to injury, the supporting post players came through with big efforts. Bernadett Balla scored 16 points, while Allen and Amber Carver posted 10 points each. Carver added 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
In the middle of the action was point guard Jaci Bigham, who matched a season high with 10 assists.
Luper enters the game needing 32 points to tie Vivian Herron’s ORU career scoring record of 2,192 points. The Adair native also needs seven steals to match Kim Ogden’s school record of 372.
A surprisingly resurgent IUPUI outfit had their late-season momentum halted on Saturday afternoon with a 58-49 loss to last-place Southern Utah. The Jaguars shot just 30.6% in the loss.
The defeat ended IUPUI’s three-game winning streak and dropped them to 11-14 (6-7 Summit League).
IUPUI’s late-season rally began on Jan. 14 when they blasted ORU, 72-48, in Indianapolis. The Golden Eagles were held to 31.1% shooting, and Luper was held to a season-low six points.
Katie Comello scored 28 points to lead the Jags to the win, which was the largest ever for IUPUI against Oral Roberts.
Still, the Golden Eagles are 16-12 all-time against IUPUI.
Jerry Finkbeiner’s club hits the trail again on Saturday, Feb. 18, when they take on IPFW. Tip-off is set for 1 pm ET.
