Seniors Dominique Allen, Georgia Jones and Jordan Pyle were honored after their final home game. The trio combined to lead ORU to Summit League regular season championships and WNIT appearances in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
Kevi Luper finished the game with 24 points and five steals. The junior is now nine points and three steals away from setting the ORU career records in both categories.
Bernadett Balla also scored in double-figures for ORU (17-9, 11-4 Summit League), chipping in 10 points. The freshman has scored at least 10 in three of her last four games.
IUPUI (11-15, 6-8 Summit League) got 12 points from both Kerah Nelson and Katie Comello, but the Jaguars shot just 30.2% from the field. They also turned the ball over 26 times.
The Golden Eagles shot just 37.7%, winning for the first time this season when failing to connect on 40% of their field goal attempts.
Luper provided the punch early in the game, scoring ORU’s first four points and assisting on an Allen bucket to give ORU a 6-0 lead at the 17:04 mark.
IUPUI missed 17 of their first 20 shots, yet the Jaguars were able to move ahead late in the first half. Janna Eichelberger gave the visitors a 17-15 lead at the 7:00 mark of the period.
The Golden Eagles shook off some rust later in the half, reeling off a 12-1 run. Jaci Bigham capped the spurt with a dagger from the right wing, giving the home team a 31-22 lead with 3:38 on the clock.
ORU carried a 35-30 lead into the break. Luper had 13 points and four steals at intermission.
Jones hit her stride six minutes into the second half, scoring five straight points. A three-pointer at the 12:39 mark gave ORU a double-digit lead, 51-41, with 12:39 left.
IUPUI closed in before a 6-0 Golden Eagle comeback stretched the lead back to 10 points. A pair of Allen free throws gave ORU a 57-47 lead at the 7:54 mark.
The lead was never smaller than nine points again.
The victory avenges ORU’s earlier loss to IUPUI, a 72-48 setback on Jan. 14.
Amber Carver led the Golden Eagles with 10 rebounds. The sophomore has hit double-figures in rebounding in her last two games.
Luper will aim for both ORU career records on Saturday, when the Golden Eagles face IPFW. Tip time in Fort Wayne, Ind., is set for 1 pm ET.
