TULSA, Okla. - Junior Kevi Luper continues her run at the record books on Saturday afternoon, when Oral Roberts University faces off with IPFW on the first leg of a two-game Summit League road trip. Tip-off at the Gates Sports Center is scheduled for 12 pm CT.
Radio coverage of Saturday’s game begins at 11:45 am CT on KYAL-AM 1550 and ORUGoldenEagles.com. ORU fans wishing to watch the game live can access a video webstream on GoMastodons.com for a small fee.
Luper enters Saturday’s game in range of two ORU career records. The Adair native has 2,184 career points, eight shy of Vivian Herron’s school record of 2,192. Luper also has the school’s steals record in her crosshairs, as her 370 career thefts place her two short of Kim Ogden’s ORU career mark.
Both records are likely to fall on Saturday for the two-time All-American, who averages 24.0 points and 4.1 steals per game through the first 91 games of her illustrious career.
Luper is also in range of the Summit League career steals record of 384, currently held by former Youngstown State star Coleen Cook.
The Golden Eagles (17-9, 11-4 Summit League) wrapped up their home schedule on Feb. 13 with a 67-55 victory over IUPUI. Luper led all scorers with 24 points, while Bernadett Balla added 10 points.
ORU shot just 37.7% against the Jaguars but won for the first time in 2011-12 when shooting under 40%.
Balla’s double-digit effort is her third in the last four games. ORU is 5-0 this season when the freshman scores 10 or more points.
Sophomore Amber Carver is also on a hot streak. The center tallied a double-double on Feb. 11 vs. Western Illinois, with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and she added 10 more rebounds in the IUPUI win.
IPFW (8-17, 5-9 Summit League) snapped a six-game losing streak on Feb. 13 with a 52-45 victory over Oakland. Senior Stephanie Rosado led the Mastodons with 20 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Rosado has played in just 18 of 25 games this season because of a knee injury. She missed the Jan. 23 matchup between IPFW and ORU, a 102-62 Golden Eagle victory in Tulsa.
Luper and Jordan Pyle scored 25 points each in the victory, while Balla was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor and scored 18 points.
Jerry Finkbeiner’s club is now 7-3 all-time against the Mastodons with wins in the last three meetings between the clubs.
ORU wraps up their road trip on Monday, Feb. 20 at Summit League foe Oakland. Tip time in Rochester Hills, Mich., is booked for 5:30 pm CT.
