Golden Eagles Battle Louisiana Tech

ORU is 3-4 and fell to No. 3/3 Baylor on Wednesday night, 94-56. Senior Kevi Luper went 8-for-22 from the floor and led the Golden Eagles with 22 points in the loss.
Freshman Taylor Cooper caught fire late in the first half and finished with 16 points on the evening. The rookie was 4-for-7 from three-point range.
Center Sarah Shelton, meanwhile, was a force on the low block, finishing with 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Baylor’s All-Americans powered the Bears to the victory. Reigning national player of the year Brittney Griner finished with a double-double, tallying 22 points and 10 rebounds, while point guard Odyssey Sims had 27 points, six assists and six steals.
Baylor shot 56.3% from the floor and outrebounded ORU, 44-29. The Golden Eagles shot 34.8% as a team after posting a 23.5% clip in the second half.
Luper is averaging a team-best 22.6 points per game in 2012-13. She enters Friday's contest with 2,435 career points, 60th-most in NCAA Division I history.
The Lady Techsters are 3-5 after holding off preseason Southland Conference favorite McNeese State on Wednesday, 52-50. Sophomore Kelia Shelton led Tech with 23 points and six rebounds in the win.
Shelton has played in just five of Louisiana Tech’s first eight games but leads the Lady Techsters with 13.2 points per game. Senior Brittany Lewis has been Louisiana Tech’s top inside threat through eight games, averaging 11.5 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.
Louisiana Tech is a three-time National Champion, winning the AIAW title in 1980-81 and NCAA crowns in 1981-82 and 1987-88.
Head Coach Teresa Witherspoon is 76-38 in her fifth season at her alma mater, which she led to the 1988 NCAA title.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 3-4 in her first season.
Oral Roberts is 1-6 all-time against the Lady Techsters but has faced off with the Louisiana Tech program just once since 1985.
ORU last played the Lady Techsters on November 19, 2011, cruising to a 92-71 victory at the Mabee Center. The game was tied at the halftime break, 38-38, before the Golden Eagles shot 57.5% and reeled off 54 points in the second half. Luper scored 28 points in the 2011 victory, while Bernadett Balla chipped in 12 points and three blocked shots.
ORU is 0-3 in Ruston, having lost the three contests by an average of 35.0 points per game, but they haven’t played Louisiana Tech on the road since February 21, 1984.
The Golden Eagles continue their season-long six-game road trip on Thursday, Dec. 20, when they face Big Ten Conference heavyweight Nebraska. Tipoff in Lincoln, Neb., is booked for 7:05 pm CT.
