ORU Heads to Milwaukee to Battle Marquette
ORU (1-7) suffered an 84-54 defeat at the hands of Northwestern on Monday afternoon. Christian Key led the Golden Eagles with 15 points in the loss, but she was the lone ORU player to hit double-figures. Oral Roberts committed 27 turnovers and shot 31.5% in the setback, their seventh straight.
Key continues to lead ORU in scoring, with 11.1 points per game, a mark that ranks 24th in the Southland Conference. Fellow senior Sarah Shelton ranks 2nd in the league with 2.0 blocks per game and 4th with 8.8 rebounds per game.
Marquette enters the game at 7-2 after knocking off Milwaukee, 71-52, on Sunday afternoon. Aplew Ojulu led the Golden Eagles with 18 points in the victory, while All-BIG EAST selection Katherine Plouffe pulled down 15 rebounds.
Plouffe had just seven points in the win over Milwaukee, but she averages a team-high 18.1 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Katie Young also averages a double-double for Marquette, with 14.1 points and 10.0 boards per game.
ORU and Marquette have played just once before, an 89-67 Marquette victory on November 15, 2008 in Milwaukee. 2012 alumnus Georgia Jones and current Director of Operations Janae Voelker each scored 20 points in the loss to pace ORU.
Misti Cussen’s team will complete their non-conference schedule on Sunday, December 29, when they face nationally-ranked Nebraska. Tipoff in Lincoln, Neb., is scheduled for 2 pm CT.
