BEAUMONT, Texas-Six of the seven runners for ORU's men's team, and five of the six women's runners posted personal bests at the 2012 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Lamar, Friday morning. The men's team finished seventh overall, while the women finished eighth, but had an all-conference performer in Samantha Watson.

McNeese State had the top-3 finishers and took the men's championship home, while Stephen F. Austin had two of the top-3 women's finishers and took home the trophy.

The men's team averaged 27:02 around the 8K course, nearly a minute and a half faster than either of the other two 8K races this season. The women's average of 24:03 was also a minute and half faster than their only other 6K race of the year, the Chile Pepper Invitational, where they averaged 25:38.

Watson finished ninth overall to earn the all-conference honor, the first honor for the sophomore runner, finishing in 21:59.8, which was a personal best by more than a minute.

Casady Ashcraft (23:58) and freshman Megan Denzin (24:07) finished back-to-back in 43rd and 44th, respectively, with Denzin grabbing the third spot on the team for the first time this season. Both runners set personal bests with their times.

Erin Roberson also bested her personal best from last year's conference championship, running 24:25 to clear her own record by nearly a minute, finishing 49th. Marrisa Thomas (25:45) finished 62nd overall, while freshman Hayley Monforton ran a season-best 27:23 to finish 67th.

For the men, freshman David Batchelder ran a season-best 26:12 to claim 42nd, leading the way for the Golden Eagles, while Jonathan Harper also ran his best time of the year (26:13) to finish 43rd.  Finishing out the clump at the top was Ryan Masey, who improved nearly two minutes, running 26:18 to finish 45th, easily the best time of his career.

Leif Peterson ran 27:08 for 56th and a new personal best, while Tyler Banks (29:16) and Michael Mudukuti (29:39) finish 66th and 68th, respectively. The final Golden Eagle across the line was John Bradford, who finished in 31:25 for 71st overall.
